Garanti BBVA Entered the A List in CDP’s Climate Change and Water Security Programs
Garanti BBVA has been recognized for its pioneering efforts in sustainable development, achieving the highest level of rating in the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) Climate Change and Water Security Programs for 2024. With this recognition, the Bank has secured a place on CDP’s global “A” List. By being listed in the Global A List for both programs, Garanti BBVA has once again demonstrated its outstanding performance and transparency in the disclosure, strategy, and management of environmental risks.
Garanti BBVA CEO Mahmut Akten commented regarding the success: "Sustainable development is at the core of our Bank’s priorities. Our dedication to fighting the climate crisis, supporting the transition to a low-carbon economy, and fostering inclusive growth reflects a broad transformation vision that includes all our stakeholders. Since 2009, we have been providing detailed and transparent disclosures to CDP’s Climate Change Program, and since 2015, to its Water Program. As one of CDP Türkiye’s main supporters, we take pride in leading the private sector’s journey towards sustainability transformation. CDP evaluates companies based on their environmental performance, assessing factors such as risk and opportunity management, governance structure, target setting, and progress tracking. At Garanti BBVA, we actively support both individual and corporate customers in transitioning to a low-carbon economy through sustainable finance solutions. Our offerings include green bonds, sustainable loans, and climate-friendly investment instruments. Being awarded the highest scores by CDP in both climate change and water security confirms that we are on the right path. Today, sustainability-linked factors are becoming increasingly central to investment decisions. Our strong CDP scores not only highlight our alignment with these global standards but also validate our efforts on the international stage. This success is the result of our collective commitment—our employees, business partners, and stakeholders all play a crucial role in achieving these milestones. Looking ahead, we remain committed to minimizing our own environmental footprint while going beyond financing to encourage our customers to adopt more sustainable business models. Through innovative initiatives, we will continue to contribute to Türkiye’s transition to a low-carbon economy and work towards a more sustainable future.”
